Wests Tigers Mackay grant

Here is a great example of a club preserving with their dream and having a plan.  An undercover bowls green which will used as an entertainment area and even as an evacuation area during times of extreme weather gets the tick of approval from both the Commonwealth and Local Government Governments.  Between the two tiers of government $653K Commonwealth and $250K Local Government out of a total budget of $1.4M.

It been a pleasure working with Kingsley from Wests.  In the middle is Federal Member Michelle Landry and to the right is the Mayor of the Mackay Council Greg Williamson.

Sport Grants Queensland

Last week I attended the Southern Downs Steam Railway board meeting in Warwick to discuss next years plan to celebrate 150 years of rail in Queensland. I am now pleased to announce that our region will celebrate this landmark event by a visit of the steam train over the June long weekend.

Followers of this blog will no doubt be aware that this has been a long time coming as I flagged this event last year and have been talking to not only the Steam Train people in Warwick but also Queensland Rail.

Train 2015

Now with the steam train visit locked in it is now possible to see what other activities compliment the visit of the train and how we as a community can capitalise on any opportunities. Any suggestions by the community would be welcome so if you think of something please stop me in the street, telephone, email, facebook…

Sport Grants Queensland

These photographs courtesy of Bicycle Queensland ‘s official photographer shows what 815 people, waiting for the CQ 2011 Goondiwindi to Brisbane ride to begin, looks like all together.  It is probably the only opportunity to get them photographed all in one place at the one time throughout the whole event.

The following photograph is from Bicycle Queensland show the cyclists heading east along Marshall Street .

More photographs from Yelarbon and Texas to follow in another web post shortly.

Goondiwindi to Gold Coast cycle ride returns 2017

leave a comment »

cq-2017-001

Here’s the front page of the brochure produced in 2005.  Attractive destination point, the Gold Coast, and hopefully up to 1,000 riders through Goondiwindi, Yelarbon, Inglewood, Texas and onto the Gold Coast.

To maximise the benefits of up to an extra 1,000 people,  looking to link with community events along the way, including the annual food festival in Goondiwindi, but will wait to see if that meets the Cycle people’s schedule for the event.  Looking early part September 2017.

You can register now for the ride by visiting.. .http://cycleqld.bq.org.au/

Ambulance service boost… come along way since 1920

Sport Grants Queensland

I received a media release today (Wednesday) from the State Government advising that Goondiwindi has received an additional four paramedics.  According to the media release the new officers commenced in their positions in Goondiwindi in May.

At a time when government jobs are being removed from rural Queensland (who remembers when the Court House was bulging with public servants from differing departments?) it is heartening to see an “influx”of  people, into a place like Goondiwindi.

Things were a lot different for the old QATB officers in Goondiwindi in 1920 by the look of the ambulance station.     I wonder how many “ambos” were stationed in Goondiwindi when this photograph was taken?

So a belated welcome to our four new paramedics.  We hope to see you out and about and hope we aren’t in need of your services or your mode of transport  just yet!!  But good to know that if we are you are…
